Why do compliments fade so quickly,  
while criticism lingers?

Imagine you’ve just finished a presentation.

Nine people said it was great.  
One person said it could have been better.

But when you get home,  
the only thing replaying in your mind  
is that one critical comment.

And before long,  
thoughts like these start to appear:

*“Maybe I’m just not good enough.”* 
*“Everyone probably thinks the same thing.”* 
*“I messed up again.”*

But here’s what actually happened:

Nine people responded positively.  
One person pointed out something they didn’t like.

Yet our minds often take that single criticism,  
magnify it,  
and turn it into a conclusion like:

*“I’m not good enough.”*

In psychology, this tendency is called  
**Negativity Bias**.

Our brains are wired to pay more attention  
to potential threats than positive experiences.

That’s why one critical comment  
can feel more powerful  
than ten compliments.

If someone’s words keep replaying in your mind today,  
try asking yourself:

**“Is this a fact, or is it my interpretation?”**

The moment you begin to separate facts from thoughts,  
your mind can start to find a more balanced perspective.
